The Trevor Project
Strategy / Art Direction / Design
The Trevor Project is a non-profit founded in 1998 focused on suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth. Studies show that about 50% of LGBTQ+ gamers report experiencing homophobia in gaming communities, with 66% of them describing their experience as hostile. Despite being virtual, online homophobia can have real-world consequences.
Spectrum Bot
To help foster a safe community for young LGBTQ+ gamers, the Trevor Project has created Spectrum, a bot that uses chat moderation to censor homophobic language or hate speech.

Promoted in bot stores, the Spectrum bot functions as an educational resource and moderator for inclusive spaces on Twitch and Discord.

On Discord, Spectrum directly messages offenders when language has been flagged. Repeated strikes lead to messages from partnered LGBTQ+ streamers and chat restrictions or bans for repeated homophobic behavior.
